Kingston, WA – It took a thrilling putt off on the deck of the Filling Station to determine the 2018 FDO Champion. Once again Team ‘Who’s Your Caddy’ took home the coveted FDO Cup to become the first back-to-back Champs. The winning foursome was compromised of Brian Jzyk, Thad Becker, Jesse Durham, and Travis Pope. Last year the champs went by ‘Team JZYK’ but tournament directors demanded more creativity this year. “I thought Brian just had his kid mash on the keyboard to pick their team name last year.” Said JR Greene, Tournament Organizer. “It turns out JZYK is Slavic for Cheats at Golf”. Again this year it didn’t matter what name they pick as they took home the Northwest’s most notorious golf prize once again!
Team Who’s Your Caddy had to fight into the 19th hole in order to bring home the crown. Team Coug Hopefuls tied Who’s Your Caddy with an 11 under par 61. The putt off on the deck of the Filling Station took place in front of a standing room only crowd between Who’s Your Caddy team member Thad Becker and Coug Hopefuls team member Tyler Echelbarger. Both teams failed miserably on their first attempt. Echelbarger’s second attempt ran just wide of the cup drawing disappointment from the crowd. After getting a good read on the break from Echelbarger’s miss Becker stood up to ball beaming with confidence. A crisp stroke and a slight left to right break sealed the victory for Who’s Your Caddy. The crowd roared for nearly 5 seconds and then continued to drink.
The tournament was blessed with sunshine for only the second time in FDO history and a record 84 players. “We can’t call everyone at the FDO a Golfer because most of them don’t know how to golf.” Stated, Erin Greene, Tournament Organizer. “We have to call everyone Players as I think more than half of the field was playing (Follow Around the Drink Cart)”.
Who’s Your Caddy weren’t the only winners. Long drive and KP winners received prizes at the post tournament celebration. Women’s closest to the pin winner was JJ McIntosh and Kiersten Christensen had the longest drive for the ladies.
Men’s closest to the pin winners were Tyler Echelbarger and Kevin Hagerman. Longest drives were Brent Vickland and Travis Pope.
Best Dressed Team was won by Plaid Pants and a Dream.
The tournament celebration ended with an interesting twist…. rumor has it that Team Coug Hopefuls, angry about their loss, sabotaged the ferry system and stranded 75% of the golfers on Kingston. Luckily most teams were able to form a raft on Team Who’s Your Caddy’s ego to float back to Edmonds.
